   We weren't quick enought to catch Matt's reaction to the hat (It was a complete surprise.   :) ), but here is Dr. Krynicki---with his new hat:

   I am told that Matt is the first person granted a doctorate---to have his picture taken on the new bench.  :)

   Matt getting his doctorate was a VERY emotional event.  (His mother was crying.) I can't think of anyone here who deserved it more.  CONGRATULATIONS, MATT!

   Matt's father, Daniel Krynicki, sent me some (high-resolution) pictures of the event.  Click here to see them.  I also included a picture of Matt just before the defense.  I didn't know it at the time, but I had managed to get his advisor (A one Dr. Mark Conde; he's from Tasmania---and he's really cool.  :) ) in the picture as well.
