Here is a picture of Norma Pfeiffer holding the hat.  :) Norma is WAY cool---she used to be our most bodacious graduate physics secretary; "through-walked" the Appalachian Trail (!!); and remembers--astoundingly--my home town ( :P :P :P :P ), 'n stuff.  (!!)

      I didn't know much about North's thesis work. . . .  A day or two before, Dr. Watkins handed me a copy of his thesis, and said something *HYSTERICAL*--which, unfortunately, I shan't repeat.  :) :) (It might reflect badly on the "defense policies," here. . . .  :) ;) ) The most I could get out of it was "cloud veil." Thus . . . it's a cloud veil.  :) :)

      I didn't really know North at all (That didn't stop him from trying to get me come work for Lockheed Martin.  ;) )---and I had thought that he thought that this whole business . . . at least moderately silly.  ( :( ) It was only later, when Dr. Craven (the head of the department---and on MY committee :) ) came by, that he told me that North was "very touched." :) :) That was cool.  :)
